Wellcraft 302 Fisherman Price

Wellcraft 302 Fisherman Price For decades, Wellcraft and Beetle brands in the United States have been associated with high-performance boat navigation and offshore boat racing. The brands won world fame in the mid-1980s thanks to the success of Miami Vice’s COP TV-and its Super Cool, colorful pastel costume starring, Sonny Crockett (aka actor Don Johnson).

In the persecution of drug traffickers, thieves and all bad guys, the characters of the Crocket series and their side-kick Vice COP Ricardo Tubbs, would regularly take to the water in a 38KV Wellcraft beetle, the TV show elevation Wellcraft Sales dramatically over the past 1980 and raise the profile of the brand internationally.

The Miami Vice TV show did wonders to drive sales of Wellcraft beetle sports boats back in the day, but the Wellcraft brand was popular and successful long before the 1980s COP show aired for the first time , and continues as a current brand, with the representation of distributors around the world.

Wellcraft, along with the sister brands Beetle, Glastron and four Winns, is now owned by the giant French boat builder, the Beneteau group. Since the acquisition of Wellcraft in 2014, the parent company has thinned down the range, refined the manufacturing techniques and introduced several new models. Chief among the new boats, and the theme of this review, is the console of the Fishermen Center 302.

Wellcraft 302 Fisherman Design

The 302 fishermen is a large, open, boat-center console with a design that is equally suitable for day-sailing in the harbor as offshore sport fishing. Families and fishermen alike will appreciate comfortable bucket rudder chairs, foldable bench back seat, extensive sub-floor storage areas, and side-opening main compartment under the console, which has Complete free space, a vanity, wash basin and mirror. The bow seating area is also appreciated, although it is an option in the Wellcraft. Apart from the seat/storage box in front of the console, there is no standard seat up in the arc. This is meant to allow the fishermen to stand and fish well forward with the safety of the full deck to arm it free board.

Even when the side seat is ordered with the boat, it can still be removed as it does not come as part of the cover mold. This feature only separates the Wellcraft from nearly all other console imports from the US center, as most of the others have set, side seat molded into the arc.

Our test boat was rigged with optional side seats with elegant upholstered vinyl pads that look and slot-in headrests, as well as a small, removable refrigerator placed against the front bulkhead. Under the foredeck non-skid surface is the anchor well which has a plow anchor mounted on the rollers through the boat stem, and ready to fall. Other features included the recessed arm rails, an optional cocktail table, sea deck flooring, wrap-around arm enhancers/back-rests, emergent staples, and a range of Rod holders of steel arm Stainless than skillfully double as beverage/cup holders.

Storage areas abound. There is space for safety gear under optional arch side seats, a cupboard under the floor in the arc for hubs, etc., and two levels of storage under the front seat of the console. On the rear of the boat are the folding arm drawers, two modestly sized sub-floor storage containers, as well as two large tank-bottom box/kill fish with macerators and drains overboard.

Fishermen will also appreciate the horizontal bar racks under the gunwales, the front and aft hard-top spreader lights, the hard-top frame rocket-launcher Rod rack, the self-draining drain booth Deep, spacious, optional sill gate Entertainment/food preparation station, which incorporates a slide-out, removable ice box under dual, gravity drained sinks with a single water faucet Sweet.

You could assemble the sink/Ice box console location baits, but there is also a bait box with macerator and a cutting table located on the transom, between two large impressive 87L living bait tanks with clear lids Vision.  Under the crossbar, behind the bank’s folding seat, there is access to the bilge for the maintenance of the pumps, the steering equipment, etc. The batteries are mounted forward, under the rudder seat module, under the comfortable rudder chairs.

There is excellent visibility from the rudder and the reinforcements of the front swivel seat and three feet of reclining level ensures that the boat is easy and comfortable to drive while sitting or standing. The wide, anti-glare color of the fascia and dash easily accommodates all of its instrumentation, engine gauges and built-in screens, while a box under the hard top provides storage and caters to its marine radios.

At each corner of the crossbar, sit a 23-gallon baitwells equipped with clear lids to monitor live baits. A third hatch opens to an elegant bait preparation station.

A rear bucket and a boarding staircase are also standard features. And if diving, scuba diving or capturing considerable pelagics are part of their plans, a side door and a stern door are among the options available. Other possible improvements include a Premium sound system, LED underwater lights, a pull-out bow table, a front cockpit sunshade, a Garmin Chart plotter, the Open matrix radar, a aft folding seat comes standard.

With a renovated hull, with a wider but still sleek beam and with its pure-line sweeping signature, the new 302 fisherman impressed during our sea test. Powered by Twin 350 Veras, it was quick to jump on the plane and accelerate to 57.6 mph by turning 6,300 RPM. In a 2-foot chop, shuttle sprints from zero to 30 mph — with and against the wind — averaged a 7.5-second SWIFT.

Although it is not uncommon to hear someone say that a boat feels bigger than its actual dimensions, the 302 drives like a smaller boat. It was surprisingly sensitive from takeoff to grand opening accelerator and Zigzagueaba between a chain of crab-trap buoys enlisted for a slalom test, with no exaggerated inclination or slippage in tight turns.

The Wellcraft also proved to be dry, stable, and impervious to excessive pitch and roll while drifting and at idle speed. All said, the 302 fisherman is fun, versatile, handles like a sports car, shines on the family outings, and can out-duel offshore game. Wellcraft 302 Fisherman Price

Wellcraft large, wide beam, yet trailerable (with permissions) 302F is a very well appointed open deck boat with a center console rudder configuration and a 22 degree deep Vee hull Deadrise, reminiscent of those beetles. Pointy-nose racing of the years 80. The boat offered for the test by the HiOctane Marine of Gold Coast was made as an offshore broker also-thanks to the double Mercury Racing 400R Super-charged four-stroke outboard mounted on the transom. With these incredibly fast, high-revolutionizing six-cylinder on-line engines, the test rig easily cracks the barrier of 50 knots.

You don’t need to 800hp though. A pair of 250HP Mercury Veras will provide a wide power (43 knots) for most fishermen and day sailors-and you will save a few dollars as well. With the smaller engines of Verad HiOctane Marina has low boat packages (trailer of SANs) starting from scarcely $255,800. It is a very competitive price for a boat of 9.0 m. The large Wellcraft is also very well equipped-but instead of enumerating all the standard features we will take note of the key options fitted to the test platform. Then you can figure in almost everything else to be standard.

Our test boat was customized and rigged with a lot of options. In addition to upgrading to dual Mercury 400R outboards, the elegant 302 fisherman’s look had a giant Garmin 22 “Multi-function screen that combines GPS/Fish Finder, Radar, Garmin VHF, bicolor paint, bow seat package, windless anchor, rope and chain , bow table, bow filling pad, backs and ice box, electric toilet in console, top sound system, taco stabilizers, sea deck cockpit mat, plunge gate, boarding scale, and more.

With previous additions and upgrades the price goes up to $380k (or $400k with a trailer), but still represents an excellent value against comparable size, similar to the craft of several rival brands in the United States.
